Although the line was steep and crooked it was maintained in excellent condition there being a work train out all summer long that would do credit to a Class I railroad. Passenger trade was poor in spite of the marvelous scenery.

1324 This is a three foot gauge hobby road owned by Ward Kimball and located in San Gabriel, California. These pictures taken in 1939 show the rolling stock shortly after it had been received. The little mogul was purchased from the Nevada Central Railway which ran between Battle Mountain and Austin; it was their number 2 (The "Sidney Dillon") and built by Baldwin in 1881. The coach came from the Southern Pacific narrow gauge in the Owens Valley of eastern California, near Bishop. Since these pictures were taken Mr. Kimball has restored this equipment to a marvelous condition and has added other early day railroad items.
1337 Lake Tahoe Railway & Transportation Company. Lake Tahoe, California. This road is abandoned. A three foot gauge line, this road ran from Truckee, where it connected with the Southern Pacific, to Tahoe City where it connected with its own mail steamer. The Southern Pacific acquired the line in 1905 and standard gauged it. Final abandonment came in 1940 the engine (The "Glenbrook") was donated to the state of Nevada and mounted for display at the state museum in Carson City. Pictured at Tahoe City.

1365 Midland Terminal Railway. Side door cabooses in the yard at Colorado City. 7-18-41. The Midland Terminal was a standard gauge ore road extending from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Cripple Creek, 56 miles. The road was owned by the Golden Cycle Corporation which had mines at Cripple Creek and a refinery at Colorado Springs, and the ore shipped to the refinery was almost all the business the line had. So when the refinery was moved to Cripple Creek in 1948 there was almost nothing for the road to haul. In the same year the ICC granted the line permission to abandon service and to tear up the track. Although the line was steep and crooked it was maintained in excellent condition there being a work train out all summer long that would do credit to a Class I railroad. Passenger trade was poor in spite of the marvelous scenery.
